Rabbis and Tzaddikim
Included here are brief biographical
sketches of great rabbis and religious scholars - they are many times
leading philosophers, doctors and community activists.
These individuals sometimes played important roles in the
organization of a Community's daily life. Others were the authors of
important works, such as commentaries on the Torah and Talmud,
contributors to the great scholarly tradition and the Jewish religious
experience, or founders of renowned yeshivot.

These biographies are an integral part of
European history-and of the history of ethics, religion and social
thought. Many of these individuals maintained strong ties to Poland. The
earliest of these biographical sketches reaches back to medieval Spain.
