Izbica

Once atown with an almost entirely Jewish population (85-95%), Izbica was the seat of the Izbica-Radzyn tzaddik dynasty, existing until 1942 and having been established by Mordechai Josef Leiner (d. 1854), whose successors moved to Radzyn.

Among several local examples of monuments of Jewish culture the ones worth a mention are the houses from the second half of the 19th century and the cemetery located between the main road and ul. Fabryczna containing the ohel of the local tzaddik. In 2001 Izbica became a place of ecumenical prayer in memory of the Jewish community of the Lublin region. Jozef Zycinski, the metropolitan Archbishop of Lublin, was one of the organisers.
